As reported by the Public Relations Department of Esfahan Provincial Governorship, Dr. Zargarpour who was in charge of water management in the past, visited the construction operations of the third Koohrang tunnel and dam and was informed about the progress of the construction operations.
The governor general stating that the excavation of the third Koohrang tunnel with the length of 27 km has progressed 99.9 percent, added: "By the completion of this tunnel, about 250 millions sqm of water is transferred from Koohrang River to the water reservoir of Zayandeh Rood Dam."
He pointed out: "Less than 15 meters of excavation operation has remained. We hope tunnel-excavation operations will be completed within the next two months and the tunnel will be prepared for temporary water transfer."
He continued: "By the end of the year, we can transfer some of the runoff which is about 60 to 80 millions sqm."
"From technical and engineering view, this tunnel is one of the most important and complex tunnels of the world" he said.
Esfahan governor general declared that methods that have been used for excavation and stabilization of the tunnel are rare and innovative on which international experts have emphasized.
He expressed that part of the delay occurred during the construction of the tunnel is due to these complexities. He also said: "Executive team of the tunnel is working at the depth of 1400 meters in pressure of more than 30 atmospheres."
Dr. Zargarpour pointed out that with regard to the volume of carried out measures, it is a super project in country or even world level and he also appreciated designers, consultants, contractors and Regional Water Management.
He also visited access tunnels and water pumping facilities with the capacity of 120 millions sqm per annum.
The governor general visiting the reservoir dam of the third Koohrang tunnel noted: "This project progressed about 16 percent, has been constructed to reserve the transferred water to the Koohrang tunnel. This dam is 130 meters high, its crest is 250 meters and its capacity is 385 millions sqm."
Dr. Zargarpour stated that this is a live project and will be inaugurated within the next few years if the financial resources are provided.
During this visit, the managing director of the Water Company and the contractors of the project gave some explanation about this vital project.
The governor general expressed hope that by the efforts of executives of Water Company and providing financial resources these two great projects would be inaugurated and people would benefit from it.
